Other the Most Interesting Theatres, Galleries, Exhibitions, Museums in Prague


Theatres
Laterna Magica - its history starts in 1958, when the producer Alfred Radok and scenographer Josef Svoboda created for the Czechoslovak pavillon a performance called  Laterna Magica on the International Exhibition in Belgium in Brussels. The main idea of this theatre is looking for the different ways and means how to tell a story. From 70th of the 20th century the Laterna Magica is a part of the National Theatre. 
Black Light Theatre IMAGE was founded in 1989. It is an independent and private theatre, whose repertoire is based on the synthesis of the black theatre, modern dancing, topical music and mime.
The Centre of the Czech Marionetters - the National Theatre of the Marionettes was founded in 1991. This theatre shows marionette´s performance of the opera Don Giovanni in a stage direction of Karel Brožek, which has already achieved of 4000 performances since 1991. This inscenation visited over 700.000 spectators from 64  cities of the  Europe, Africa and Asia.
Theatre at Vinohrady was ceremonially opened in 1907. The theatre performs first of all drama. In the theatre perfomed and still performs  one of the best actors and actresses in Prague.  

National Gallery
Convent of Saint Agnes of Bohemia - convent was built in the first half of the 13th century. Nowadays there is  a permanent exhibition of the Medieval Art in Bohemia and Central Europe. The Czech gothic art represents: Master of Vyšebrodský Altar, Master of  Michelská Virgin Mary, Master Theodoric, Master of Třeboňský Altar, work of the beautiful style, Master of Křižovnický Altar, Master of Litoměřický Altar, German  and  Austrian art (Master of Winkler Epitaph, Lucas Cranach elder and others), medieval artistic craft. In the Convent there is also a haptic exhibition of the sculptural patterns of the Czech medieval art from the 13th-15th century.
Convent of St.George - founded in 973. There is an exhibition devoted to the art of the 19th century, schematic exhibition of the Czech painting, sculpture and utility art of the important graphic styles.
Schwarzenberk palace - Schwarzenberk palace - a seat of the collection of the Old Art National Gallery. Palace comes from the 16th century and it is one of the most beautiful architecture of Renaissance style in Prague. There is located exhibition: the Baroque in Bohemia. The exhibition concentrates on three thematic spheres: Liturgy, Dining, Ornament.
Šternberk palace - palace was rebuilt in the 18th century, at present there is a permanent exhibition of the European art from the antique to the end of Baroque.  The icons, collection of German and Austrian painting from the 15th-18th century,  Italian art from  the 14th -18th century, Dutch art from the 15th-18th century, Spanish artists from  the 16th-18th century, French painting from  the 17th-18th century, Flemish and Dutch art from the 16th-18th century are located in the palace. The Exhibition comprises pictures of A.Bronzin, G.B.Tiepola, El Greco, F. Goya, P.P. Rubens, H. Holbein or A.Dürer and others.
Fair Palace - built in 1928. The Palace is a seat of the National Gallery Collection of  the Modern and Contemporary Art. There is the art of  the 20th and the 21st century, then the exposition of the art of the 19th and the 20th century, which repersents a key authors of the Czech graphic art. A part of the exposition is also a collection of the French art of the 19th and the 20th century and the permanent exhibition of the foreign art of the 20th century. 
House at the Black Virgin Mary - built in 1912. There is a permanent exhibition of the Czech Cubism from time of its beginning thorough of the years of its development.
Chateau Zbraslav - originally Cistercians monastery from 1292, rebuilt in the 18th century. The chateau houses a  permanent Exhibition of the Asian Art and Collection of the Oriental Art.

Gallery of the Capital City of Prague
Chateau Troja - built in the second half of the 17th century. There is an exhibition Enternal Summer in a Roman Villa.

Exhibitions
Prague Castle - gothic floor. There is  a permanent exhibiton The Story of Prague Castle, that includes a history of Prague Castle from  the prehistory untill today. The exhibition introduces original objects from the Castle collections and building development of Prague Castle.  The speciality is a funeral robe of Anna Svídnická, one of wives of Charles  IV. Prague Castle Picture Gallery - is the oldest continual existing picture collection in the Czech lands. In the Gallery you can find chosen works of courtly artists, of German and Dutch Renaissance old masters, of Italian Renaissance and Mannerism and also of Central European Baroque artists.

Museums
National Museum - founded in 1818, historic building was opened in 1891. This is the largest museum in the Czech Republic. The Museum contains 14 million objects, 18 expositions in Prague, 11 expositions outside of Prague.
The most interesting parts are: .
National Museum - historic building. Among others there is a historical, anthropological,  mineralogical and petrological exhibition, exhibition of zoology and palentology.
Stone Collection of the National Museum -  building was built in 1891 on the exhibition area in Prague. There is the exposition of  the stone statues in Bohemia from the 11th until the 19th century. Among others there are originals of the sculptural group from Charles Bridge - Vision of St.Luitgarda from Matyáš Bernard Braun. In 1995 The Stone Collection has been included in 10 the most beautiful museum expositions in Europe.
Lobkowicz Palace - an exhibition hall of the National Museum - palace was built in the second half of 16th. In palace there is a possibility to see exhibitions from the regional  museums and galleries of the Czech Republic. Palace is located on the territory of Prague Castle.
Private Lobowicz Family Museum - situated in the Lobkowicz Palace on the territory of Prague Castle. There is a permanent exhibition, in which you can see pictures of Cranach, Brueghel, Canalet, manuscripts of Beethoven, Haydn and Handel.
Museum of Arts and Crafts - was founded in 1899. There is a permanent exposition of the textile and fashion, utility graphic art and photography, glass and ceramics, metals and other materials, clocks and watches.  
Museum of the Capital City of Prague - building was built in 1898. There are large-scale collections that documents History of Prague from the period of its beginning until present. There is an unique collection of the guild relics and Prague vedutas and also the famous Langweil model of Prague from 1826-1837.

Jewish Museum of  Prague

founded in 1906 is the largest of its kind in Europe. Museum contains 40.000 objects and 100.000 volumes. Collection is unique not only by a quantity of the objects but also  by objects coming from all territory of Bohemia and Moravia. The museum comprises of the  Maisel, Spanish, Klausen, and Pinkas synagogue, Old Jewish Cemetery and Ceremonial Hall of the Burial Brotherhood. The Old New Synagougue is also a part of above mentioned complex of the historic buildings and it  is a property of the Prague  Jewish Community.
