More Detailed Information about English

Considering the fact that English is a very spread languague, several alternations grew up in the countries where English is not an official languague.

For example it is  Swenglish (Swedish English)  for Swedish, further Spanglish for Latin American immigrants from words  Spanish English and others. In Czech nation grew up so called Czenglish, in which the Czechs use Czech sentence syntax and other elements of Czech grammar.

History of English German speaking tribes from a different parts of northwestern Germany and Jutland invided England in the 5th century of our era. Their Anglo-Saxon languague spread here in the form of assimilation or by pushing back of original Celtic population. English is originally Anglo-Frisian language.

The individual German languagues then joined one languague called the Old English. This languague reminded today´s  dialect of  northwestern seaside of the Netherlands and Germany. In 1066 England is overpowered by the Normans using the English-Norman language over a period of 300 years.

It is necessary to mention that the English-Norman language is very closed to the Old-French language so that a lot of  Norman words appear in the Old English, further the Old English assimilated number of the Latin and Greek words. They exist in English untill today. In the next centuries so called Middle English appears under the Norman influence.

In the 15th century the Middle English underwent next changes and the Modern English appears in the second half of the 16th century. Modern English has then different varieties as American English, Australian English and others. Further it is necessary to mention that a lot of foreign words  assimilated into English thanks to its spread in the countries of  the third world.

English has a capability to assimilate new words and consequently a large word-stock. Neologisms rise above all in medicine, science, technologies. It is  estimated that English contains about 600.000 words, some sources present even 990.000 words.

English is also used as one of the official languagues in the countries as: India, Bahama, Barbados, Gibraltar, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and others. English is used as one of the main languagues in Hong Kong, Ireland, Singapur, the European Union and also English is one of the six  spoken languagues of OSN.

English is used by many people as the international means of communication. If somebody wants to find a good job in the Czech Republic, a knowledge of English on the communicative level is necessary.
